Doug is a cofounder of Tolerx, and has served as its President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director since inception in July 2000. Doug has over 25 years of experience as an academician, scientist, and executive in biomedical research focusing on the research and development of therapies designed to alter immunological responses. Doug received his BA and a VMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He then completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School, beginning as a Research Fellow and ultimately becoming Chairman and Associate Professor of Comparative Pathology over a 10-year time frame. Subsequently, from 1993 to 1998, Doug was a founding scientific and executive officer of LeukoSite, Inc., a biotechnology company that was ultimately sold to Millennium Pharmaceuticals in 1999, and from which two products (Campath® and Velcade®) were developed and approved for sale worldwide.

Herman is a cofounder of Tolerx. He has served as one of our directors since our inception in July 2000 and is Chairman of our Scientific Advisory Board. Herman has been a Professor of Pathology, Head of the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology at the University of Oxford, and Clinical Director of the Therapeutic Antibody Centre (TAC), University of Oxford, since 1994. Prior to that, Herman was a professor at the University of Cambridge. Herman holds a PhD and honorary DSc from the University of Cambridge and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathology, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, a Fellow of the Royal Society, and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. Herman was also the winner of the Scrip BTG lifetime achievement award in 2007 for his work pioneering the application of humanized monoclonal antibodies as therapeutics.

Lou has been Chief Medical Officer since November 2004 and served as Vice President of Clinical Development and Medical Affairs since July 2002. He has over 30 years of experience in the preclinical, clinical, and post-marketing research and development of biologics and small molecules as a research scientist, academic physician, and pharmaceutical executive. From 1998 to 2002, he was Vice President of Clinical Research and later Senior VP of Medical Affairs at Sepracor, Inc., a biotechnology company. From 1993 to 1998, Lou served as an Associate Medical Director, Medical Director, and later Medical Marketing Director for the Rebif® Multiple Sclerosis Strategic Business Unit at Serono, Inc., a biotechnology company. He holds an M.D. from Loyola University's Stritch School of Medicine and completed an Immunology Fellowship, Internal Medicine training, and Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowships at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota and Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, California. Dr. Vaickus has completed board certification in internal medicine, hematology and hematologic malignancies, and medical oncology.

Tom has served as our Chief Financial Officer since March of 2005. He has over 26 years of financial and administrative experience, the last 20 of those in the biopharmaceutical industry. Tom most recently served as the Chief Financial Officer of Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he worked for 10 years in roles of increasing responsibility. Tom was part of the team that helped lead Cubist from a research organization at its startup to a fully commercial organization today. From 1987 to 1993, Tom served at ImmuLogic Pharmaceuticals, Inc., in various financial roles. Tom holds an MBA from Suffolk University and a BS in Accounting/Law from Babson College.

Tony joined Tolerx as Chief Scientific Officer in August 2010.  In this role, he leads the company’s research and early-stage product development programs involving novel therapies based on T cell modulation.  Tony has more than 15 years of biotech R&D experience and expertise in immunology. Prior to joining Tolerx, Tony was an R&D leader at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals from 2003-2010 and served on the management team as Vice President, Research, Immunology, Metabolic, and Viral Disease.  During that time, Tony was part of a team that through the development and advancement of a pre-clinical pipeline and the formation of numerous research partnerships and alliances, helped build Alnylam from a start-up into a well-established company with multiple products in clinical trials.  He also served as a Principal Scientist at Biogen, Inc. (now Biogen Idec Inc.) from 1998-2003 where he worked on several immunology/inflammation-based programs and led research teams working to develop antibody-based therapeutics. Tony earned his Ph.D. in Immunology from Harvard University, and was a Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England.

Titus has served as our Vice President, Marketing and Commercial Strategy since October 2008. With over 15 years’ experience in pharmaceutical sales, marketing and commercial development, Titus has a multi-therapeutic background in oncology, dermatology and immunology and a solid track record in developing, commercializing and expanding therapeutic areas, coordinating innovative product launches and spearheading initiation of international commercial operations. From October 2006 to July 2008, Titus served as Global Manager, IMS Oncology and, from August 2004 to September 2006, as Vice President, Marketing and Program Executive at Therion Biologics Corporation. His previous positions include Global Commercial Director Dermatology and Director, International Marketing, Dermatology and Oncology at Biogen, Inc. from April 1999 to July 2004, and Product Manager and Marketing Manager for Neupogen® at Amgen, Inc. where he started his career as a Sales Representative in September 1992. He holds an MS in Health Science: Toxicology/Epidemiology from the University of Nijmegen in The Netherlands and an Executive MBA from Pepperdine University.

Andrea has served as our general counsel and secretary since March 2007. Prior to joining Tolerx, she served for 8 years as general counsel of Idenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Before entering the biopharmaceutical industry, Andrea was associated with the law firms Kelley Drye & Warren LLP and Edwards & Angell LLP (now Edwards Angell Palmer Dodge). She holds a JD from Boston College Law School and a BS from Providence College.

Terry has been with Tolerx since September, 2005 and has over 20 years of Human Resources experience.  Prior to joining Tolerx, she was the head of HR at Adnexus Pharmaceuticals (formerly Compound Therapeutics) and before that lead and built the HR team at Cubist Pharmaceuticals.  Terry most especially enjoys working with employees to navigate the multiple complexities that are faced when going from research to development to commercialization.  She is also very proud of the extremely low voluntary turnover rate at Tolerx and intends to help keep it that way. Terry earned her B.S. in Psychology from Clark University and her M.S. in Human Resources Management, with a Mental Health Counseling Concentration, from Suffolk University.

Charlotte has been Vice President of Clinical Development and Medical Affairs since January, 2009. In this role she is responsible for the medical and safety aspects of Tolerx's clinical programs in all phases. Charlotte joined Tolerx in 2005 as the Senior Medical Director, and since then she has been involved in the clinical development of all Tolerx compounds. She began her industry career in 2002 when she joined the Experimental Medicine group at Wyeth. At Wyeth she was responsible, first as Associate Director then as Director, for clinical translational activities in the Inflammation therapeutic area. Prior to joining industry Charlotte was a full-time member of the Brigham and Women's Pulmonary and Critical Care faculty, where her clinical and research interests focused on lung transplantation and interstitial lung disease. She maintains an adjunct appointment at Brigham and Women's and sees lung transplant patients on a part-time basis. Charlotte obtained her undergraduate degree from Harvard, her MD degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and she did her Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has completed board certification in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care.

Mark has led Process Development, Manufacturing, and Quality Control operations at Tolerx since the company's inception in 2000. He has over 15 years of experience in CM&C operations for recombinant proteins across all stages of pre-clinical and clinical development, and commercialization. From 1996 to 2000, Mark worked at LeukoSite Inc. and Millennium Pharmaceuticals (following Millennium's acquisition of LeukoSite) where he managed all aspects of the manufacturing of clinical and commercial monoclonal antibody products and played an integral role in the approval and worldwide commercialization of Campath® anti-CD52 monoclonal antibody. Prior to 1996, Mark worked at Serono where he was a member of the team that was responsible for the commercial manufacturing of Serostim® recombinant human growth hormone.  Mark is a graduate of the School of Biotechnology, Dublin City University, Ireland

Donna has been Vice President of Clinical Development and Operations since July, 2009.  She works with the clinical research personnel to ensure that clinical objectives are met efficiently, on time, within budget, and in compliance with GCP mandates.  As Tolerx begins actively preparing for its first BLA, she will focus on this corporate management process.  Starting out as a biochemist working on microbial nitrogen-fixation in the soils of third-world countries in the late 70's, Donna became hooked on pharmaceutical process and product development as a part-time study coordinator while in graduate school in 1988 and has been working in the biopharm arena ever since.  She has worked at several CROs and pharmaceutical companies, most recently at Sepracor, Inc.  and Purdue Pharma, LLC. before joining Tolerx.  Donna received her training at Penn State University, North Carolina State University, and The University of North Carolina.
